Dr. Copper – level 3
14-03-2025 07:00
Copper is often called Dr. Copper because its price is a good indicator of the global economy’s health.
This year, its price has risen nearly 14%, which usually suggests strong economic growth and increased industrial demand, especially from China. The country has been introducing measures to support consumption. However, the situation is more complex due to trade tensions between the US, China, and Europe.
A key factor is the price difference between domestic and UK copper, which reached a record 920 dollars per metric ton on February 10th before falling to 816 dollars by February 28th. While still high, this is far from its peak. Historically, this difference has ranged between 250 and 500 dollars.
The unusually high premium may indicate ongoing trade conflicts rather than a strong global economy. Investors are uncertain whether the recent price increase is a positive signal or just temporary.
Difficult words: indicator (a sign or signal that shows something exists or is true), complex (consisting of many different and connected parts), premium (the extra amount paid on something).
