Earthquake in Turkey – level 2
08-03-2017 15:00
A 5.5-magnitude earthquake hit a town in Turkey. Buildings were damaged and five or more people injured. There were four more tremors after the strong earthquake. Four teams of 35 rescuers were sent to the area.
Earthquakes are frequent in Turkey because the country lies on active fault lines. However, the recent earthquake was only around 9 kilometres deep.
Difficult words: magnitude (how strong something is), earthquake (when the ground moves), fault line (a break in a rock formation).
