15 wild elephants in southwestern China leave the place where they usually live. They travel more than 500 kilometers.

Local authorities watch the animals. They keep the elephants away from people. The animals look healthy. They do not hurt anyone. They walk through fields. They destroy crops. The damage is more than 1 million dollars.

17 wild elephants are stranded in another part of China. They cannot go across a river. Too much water is in the river in summer. The elephants go to a special place. Farmers keep crops there. They care for them they make them grow better. The elephants destroy some special plants.

Difficult words: crops (a plant which farmers grow), damage (how much costs something what people destroy), stranded (when someone cannot leave a place, for example when the weather is bad).
