Erdogan of Turkey – level 2
02-07-2018 07:00
Recep Erdogan has been power in Turkey since 2003. First, he was the Prime Minister, and in 2014, he became the president.
Last year, there was a referendum on the president’s powers where people voted to give the president sweeping new powers. The country has changed from a parliamentary system to a presidential system.
Some people say that Turkey has become a ‘one-man regime’.
Difficult words: referendum (when people vote if something should happen), sweeping (absolute, total), regime (a government, usually one with a very powerful leader).
