EU car ban – level 1
21-02-2023 07:00
The EU wants to make only electric cars in the future. In October 2022, EU countries agree that they will sell only electric cars from 2035. It will not be possible to buy a car that runs on gas anymore.
The European Parliament approves a law last week. This law bans the sale of other than electric cars from 2035. Cars, which car makers will sell from 2030, must have 55% fewer CO2 emissions. EU countries will probably approve the law in March this year.
European car makers spend very much money on new technologies. Volkswagen is a German car maker. It will only produce electric cars in Europe from 2033.
Difficult words: approve (to officially agree with something), ban (to officially stop something), CO2 emission (gas which cars and factories produce).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
The European Commission wants to ban the sale of gas cars in the EU by 2035. This is because the commission believes that it is the only way to make sure that CO2 emissions will be reduced.
