FIFA must explain World Cup ticket prices – level 3
03-06-2026 07:00
FIFA is facing a major investigation by government officials in New York and New Jersey just two weeks before the 2026 World Cup begins.
Authorities are looking into allegations that FIFA artificially raised ticket prices and misled football fans.
Many people reported that the ticketing process was confusing and that FIFA changed stadium seating maps after they bought their tickets. For example, some fans received seats much further from the field or behind the goals instead of the expensive categories they originally paid for. Tickets have become extremely expensive; some cost over 2,000 dollars without travel or hotel. Fans are angry because FIFA promised that the World Cup would be an event for ordinary families, but now regular working people cannot afford it. While FIFA refuses to comment on the investigation, fans believe the organization cares more about making money than helping supporters see the matches.
Difficult words: allegation (a statement that someone has done something wrong or illegal, but it has not been proved yet), artificially (created by people using clever or unfair tricks), mislead (to make someone believe something that is not true).
