Fire in Moscow – level 3
28-09-2016 07:00
Eight Russian firefighters lost their lives trying to save others. They were working to put out a huge fire at a plastics depot in eastern Moscow.
They helped evacuate the workers from the warehouse, and people think they also prevented an explosion of around 30 gas cylinders. Sadly, authorities say that the intense blaze and thick smoke were too much to overcome for the rescuers.
The fire spread over more than 37,000 square metres and contact was lost with the men when the roof of the warehouse collapsed. People still had hope the firefighters would be found alive, but once people contained the blaze, people discovered their bodies.
Difficult words: huge (very big), depot (a storehouse, a warehouse), blaze (a fire), contain (control).
