France Wins World Cup – level 2

Last Sunday, France won the World Cup when it beat Croatia 4–2. This was the second time that France won the World Cup, and some celebrations around Paris turned violent and the police had to step in.

French football players arrived home the following day. They were in an open-top bus in a parade along the Champs-Elysees in Paris. Hundreds of thousands of people came together to welcome back the country’s champions.

The football players then went to a garden party hosted by the President Emmanuel Macron.

Difficult words: parade (an event when people slowly walk through the city because they are celebrating something), Champs-Elysees (a broad road in Paris, France).
