Greenhouse gases record levels – level 1
01-11-2024 15:00
There is a new report by the UN. It is about greenhouse gases. And it worries scientists.
The report says that the world is not doing enough to stop climate change. Gases that make the Earth warmer, like carbon dioxide, are increasing quickly. In the past 20 years, these gases go up by 11%. They rise more in 2023 because of fossil fuels and fires. Forests help take in carbon. But they do not stop the warming.
Governments agreed to reduce these gases in a 2021 meeting. But not much changes. Next year, countries will make new plans to help the climate. Scientists say that we must cut these gases by half by 2030.
Difficult words: greenhouse gas (gas which makes the Earth warmer), increase (to go up), fossil fuel (fuel from old plants and animals, for example, oil or gas).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
