Ice in Greenland – level 2
13-08-2019 07:00
There was a heat wave over Europe which later moved over Greenland. The island country is covered almost entirely in ice but because of the heat, nearly 57% of the ice started melting.
Around 11 billion tons of ice were lost into the ocean in just one day. That is around 4 million Olympic-size swimming pools.
Difficult words: heat wave (a time when it is really hot), heat (hotness, the opposite of cold), melt (turn to water).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
