Lord of the Rings coin – level 2

22-05-2026 15:00

Great Britain has a new 50 pence coin to celebrate 25 years of The Lord of the Rings films. The royal company which makes British money chose the One Ring for the coin because everyone knows it.

The coin is small, but people can look at it and understand the story right away. The artist who made the coin used beautiful Elvish letters. He put two circles of this writing on the coin. Because the letters have different shapes and angles, they look like they are moving. This gives the design a lot of energy.

The coin also has a very cool surprise. When light shines on the coin, a special part reflects the light to show the scary Eye of Sauron.

Difficult words: coin (a small, flat piece of metal which we use as money), angle (the space between two lines or surfaces which meet), reflect (to send back light).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

How do the Elvish letters on the coin contribute to its energetic design?
