Lost Chopin waltz – level 2
04-11-2024 07:00
Curator Robinson McClellan found a new Chopin waltz at the Morgan Library and Museum in New York.
A Chopin expert confirmed the manuscript as genuine and said that Chopin probably wrote it between 1830 and 1835. This charming melody, only 24 bars long, has Chopin’s distinctive sound, with a flowing melody and harmonies.
Composer Debbie Wiseman suggested that the waltz could be a gift for a friend, as Chopin was known for giving small musical pieces to close friends. Wiseman loves the beauty of the melody, which shows Chopin’s skill in making special music.
Difficult words: manuscript (handwritten document), genuine (real), distinctive (characteristic of one person or thing).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What did composer Debbie Wiseman suggest about the possible purpose of the newly discovered Chopin waltz and what was her opinion on the beauty of its melody?
