Luis Rubiales trial – level 2

Luis Rubiales, Spain’s former football president, is on trial for kissing player Jenni Hermoso after the 2023 Women’s World Cup final.
He says that Hermoso agreed with the kiss, but she disagrees with that. She also says that Rubiales pressured her to say she accepted the kiss. Three others, including the team’s coach, face similar charges. At first, Rubiales didn’t want to quit his job. He said that it was fake feminism. Later, he quit, and the trial started. Rubiales may even go to prison.
This case shows how much sexism there is in football. Many people believe it is an important moment for women in sports. The trial started in Madrid and will continue until February 19.
