Modern suffragettes – level 2
12-10-2015 15:00
Suffragettes were women who tried to gain the right to vote for women in Britain and the USA in the early 20th century. Now, a movie called “Suffragette” is coming to cinemas.
Actresses of the movie were talking to the media about the film at a premiere in London when 10 women threw themselves onto the floor. It was part of a modern-day protest – the women are calling for greater help for victims of domestic violence.
The stars of the movie commented on the demonstration.
Difficult words: gain (to get), victim (somebody who is hurt), domestic violence (when people are hurt by people they live with in the home).
You can read the original story and watch the video in the Level 3 section.
What do you think about this protest?
