NASA’s first asteroid lands in Utah – level 1
29-09-2023 07:00
A NASA capsule comes back to Earth from space. It has something special inside, soil from an asteroid.
This capsule travels through the sky and lands in a special place in Utah, near Salt Lake City. The US military uses this place for training and testing. This is only the third time ever that we get soil from space. NASA and the University of Arizona work together for six years to make all this happen. Japan’s space agency does this two times before, in 2010 and 2020. But this mission is much bigger.
Many people watch the capsule land on TV. A parachute helps the capsule land. Some people worry because they do not know if the parachute works well. But luckily, everything works without problems and the capsule lands safely.
Difficult words: capsule (a small case or container), soil (a dark material in which plants grow), parachute (a piece of cloth which helps people or spaceships land).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What is the significance of the US military using the place in Utah for training and testing?
