No Beards Allowed – level 3
13-06-2017 07:00
British construction firm Mears banned male workers from having beards because this helps them wear dust masks more ‘effectively’. However, exceptions will be allowed for religious or medical reasons.
The Unite trade union said that the company had ‘hair-raising’ arrogance for asking its workers to shave their beards. Mears is not happy that the trade union opposes the rule.
Difficult words: exception (when you have permission not to follow a rule), hair-raising (very upsetting), arrogance (excessive pride).
