Nobel Peace Prize – level 1
13-10-2021 07:00
This year’s Nobel Peace Prize goes to journalists Maria Ressa and Dmitry Muratov.
Ressa and Muratov work hard in their home countries of the Philippines and Russia. They protect freedom of expression. Freedom of expression means that people can say what they want about anything they want.
The Nobel Peace Prize is important for all journalists in the world. Their work is not easy. The prize gives them hope that the future will be better.
Muratov is happy that he gets the prize. He wishes that Alexei Navalny gets the prize. Alexei Navalny is the leader of Russian opposition. He fights with the Russian president Vladimir Putin. Navalny is in prison now.
Difficult words: protect (to keep safe), hope (the feeling that something good will happen), opposition (a group of politicians who do not agree with the main political group in a government).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
