North Korean soldiers may help Russia – level 3

24-10-2024 07:00

South Korea’s spy agency has revealed that North Korea is sending troops to assist Russia in its war against Ukraine.

The report comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed that up to 10,000 North Korean soldiers could soon join the conflict. According to South Korean intelligence, 1,500 North Korean soldiers have already been deployed to Russia’s Far East for training, with a final number potentially reaching 12,000.

North Korea has also reportedly supplied Russia with vast amounts of military equipment since August 2023. Western intelligence has expressed growing concern about North Korea’s increasing involvement in the war. Some reports suggest that North Korean engineers have already been killed on the battlefield.

Both North Korea and Russia have denied the allegations. South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has called for a security meeting, urging the global community to address this evolving and potentially destabilizing situation.

Difficult words: deploy (move troops or equipment into position for military action), allegation (a statement that someone has done something wrong or illegal, without giving proof), destabilize (to make someone or something lose power or control).
