Paris is dirty – level 3

23-03-2026 15:00

The mayoral election in Paris has become a battle over trash and cleanliness.

Candidate Rachida Dati recently released a campaign video where she empties bins and climbs onto a garbage truck. She promises voters that she will make the city clean again if she wins.

Dati argues that the current organization is not effective because different groups of workers handle different cleaning tasks without coordination. Many residents in Paris feel disgusted by the state of their streets. A study shows that many people rank cleanliness as a top issue, right after security. They complain about garbage and dog excrement that appear every morning despite nightly cleaning.

Some political analysts say that the filthy city theme is a usual tactic used by certain politicians for many years. Politicians argue that some citizen groups are taking action themselves. They believe that keeping the city clean is everyone’s responsibility, not just the job of the government. They want people to respect the places where children play and the elderly walk.

Difficult words: mayoral election (whern people in a city vote to choose a new leader), coordination (making parts of a system work together), disgusted (a very strong feeling of dislike when you see, smell, or hear something very dirty or bad), tactic (a specific plan or clever method that someone uses to achieve a goal or win something).

In her campaign video, what actions does Rachida Dati take to demonstrate her promise to make Paris clean again?
