People breathe bad air – level 2
27-03-2024 07:00
A recent report said that only seven countries worldwide had safe air in 2023.
The report took data from over 30,000 monitoring stations. It showed a big problem of fine particulate matter (PM2.5). These are very small things which are in the air and we breathe them. They exceeded limits in almost all stations. Only seven countries have safe air, and Australia, Estonia, and Finland are among them. Iceland has the cleanest air in Europe. On the other hand, the worst air is in Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, and many other Asian countries.
Some European countries have cleaner air than in the past, but many still face problems with pollution. It is important to solve this problem quickly because it hurts people’s health.
Difficult words: monitoring station (a place with systems which check how many chemicals and other things are in the air), exceed (to go beyond), pollution (when the air, water, or soil gets dirty).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
Which European countries have seen improvements in air quality and which are still struggling with pollution?
