People eat differently before Easter – level 1
07-04-2026 15:00
In Greece, there is a special time in spring. People do not eat meat or milk for many days. This is a very old tradition. It is called Lent.
Monks live in a house called a monastery. They eat only vegetables, fruit, and beans. They do not eat eggs. They say that this makes them feel good and strong. Doctors think that this is healthy for the body. It helps the heart and the blood.
Many people in the city also do this before Easter. They buy fish and vegetables at the market. It is a good way to be healthy and think about God.
Difficult words: monk (a man who lives in a religious group away from other people and follows strict rules), healthy (well and strong), market (a public place where people meet to buy and sell fresh food).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What reasons do monks give for eating only vegetables, fruit, and beans during Lent?
