Pigs with Masks – level 1

Czech people have a special Christmas tradition. They believe that they can see a golden pig. To see it, they must not eat or drink before the Christmas Eve dinner.

A Czech company makes Christmas ornaments. People hang Christmas ornaments on a Christmas tree. The company makes ornaments that look like golden pigs. The pigs are golden with white and pink. The pigs look a little different this year. They have face masks.

The company owner says that she wants to show people’s mood. Czech people must wear masks in shops and public places.

People love the pigs with the masks. Many people buy them. The company is now making only pigs with masks.

Difficult words: tradition (something that people do at a special time of year, and they learn it from people who live in the past), mood (a feeling that shows on your face or how you act), public place (a place where many people meet).
