Problems with airdrops to Gaza – level 2

18-03-2024 15:00

There are problems with delivering aid to Gaza through airdrops. Airdrop means dropping food or other help from a plane.

The UN warns that airdrops don’t stop famine for the 500,000 people in need. Also, when planes drop packages with help, they may hurt or even kill people on the ground.  Airdrops are expensive and compared to other ways, they are not easy to do. For successful airdrops, there must be safe drop zones. Also, people on the ground need to organize the help, which is very difficult.

Many people criticize this form of help, but governments continue airdrops to show support for Gaza. But airdrops will not solve the problem.

Difficult words: aid (help), famine (when people have nothing to eat), continue (to keep doing something).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What challenges do governments face when using airdrops to deliver aid to Gaza, and why do they continue to use them despite criticisms?
