Racism in the USA – level 2
25-06-2015 07:00
Last week, nine people died in South Carolina. The murder was racially motivated.
The President of the United States, Barack Obama, commented on this in an interview. He said that the American nation is not cured of racism, and that it is more than not using the n word in public. The society has changed, but the legacy of slavery is still in the American DNA. It is a shadow which cannot be changed overnight.
Difficult words: cure (to solve a problem, to improve a bad situation), n word (– a very offensive term for an American black person, do not use this word), legacy (something which exists as a result of things which happened in the past).
You can read the original story and watch the video in the Level 3 section.
What do you think about this complicated problem?
