Royal Pop watch – level 2

22-05-2026 07:00

The popular watch company Swatch worked with a famous luxury brand, Audemars Piguet, and made a new pocket watch called Royal Pop.

Usually, watches from that expensive brand cost 20,000 euros, but this new watch costs only 385 euros. Because the price is low, thousands of people want to buy it. Big lines of people stood outside Swatch shops in big cities like London, New York, and Paris. Many people even slept outside the shops in tents for a week to be first in line. But the shops didn’t have enough watches for everybody, and people became angry. There were fights in Milan, and the police in Paris had to stop the angry crowd. Swatch had to close many shops because too many people came.

Now, the company is asking people to be calm. Swatch said they will make many more watches, so people don’t need to run to the shops. But some people who already bought the watches are selling them online for a lot of money.

Difficult words: luxury (expensive and beautiful), tent (a shelter made of cloth that you sleep in when you camp outside), crowd (a large group of people).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

How did many people try to secure their place in line outside Swatch shops in cities like London, New York, and Paris?
