Scientists Climb Mount Everest – level 1
02-06-2020 07:00
Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world. It is in the Himalayas in South Asia. It is on the border between China and Nepal. The official height of Mount Everest is 29,029 feet.
Chinese scientists do work on Mount Everest. They check how deep the snow is. They watch the weather and wind.
The team uses satellites to check the height of Mount Everest. The team hopes that the data helps protect the mountains. The team wants to find out more about glaciers. Glaciers are changing. This is because the planet is warming up.
People must not climb Mount Everest this spring. The reason is the coronavirus. It is possible that the scientists are the only people on Mount Everest this year.
Difficult words: height (how high something is), protect (to look after something and keep it safe from harm), glacier (a big piece of ice that looks like a hill or a river, and it moves down a mountain).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
