Spain floods – level 1

11-11-2024 15:00

Big floods hit eastern Spain last week. About 89 people are still missing.

More than 200 people die. The government is asking families to give DNA samples to help find and identify bodies. Spain’s leader, Pedro Sanchez, says that the government will give money to help people and businesses. Over 15,000 police and soldiers are helping to clean up.

Some people are angry. They say that the government reacts too slowly. People do not know that floods are coming. They have little time to leave the area. Soon, a special boat arrives in Valencia. It helps search in rivers and other areas. It is possible that some people die in the sea.

Difficult words: missing (lost), sample (a small part of something which helps to show the whole thing), identify (to say what or who something or someone is).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What is the purpose of the special boat that arrived in Valencia according to the text?
