Sweden sends young people away – level 2
02-04-2026 07:00
Sweden has new, very tough rules for people from other countries. Many young people who are 18 or 21 years old must now leave Sweden. They must go to countries like Iran or Egypt, even if they lived in Sweden for a long time.
These young people speak Swedish, they study, and they work as nurses or in other jobs. The government says that at 18, you are an adult, so you don’t need to stay with your parents. This is very sad because families can’t stay together. In one case, a baby got a letter to leave the country.
Many Swedish people are angry and are protesting in the streets to help. They want the government to change the law. But the government says the new rules are important for the country.
Difficult words: tough (very hard, strong, or strict), nurse (a person whose job is to care for sick or injured people, usually in a hospital), adult (not a child).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What impact does considering immigrants adults at 18 have on families who have lived in Sweden for a long time?
