Teotihuacan shooting – level 3
24-04-2026 15:00
A terrible shooting occurred at the famous Teotihuacan pyramids in Mexico on Monday.
A lone gunman opened fire at the popular tourist site, which many people visit every day. A woman from Canada died in the attack, and several other people suffered injuries. The gunman ended his own life after the police arrived at the scene.
Authorities identified the shooter as a young man who carried a backpack with him. Inside the bag, they found papers about a famous mass shooting in the United States. This suggests that the man planned the attack to happen on the anniversary of the Columbine High School massacre. The President of Mexico and the Prime Minister of Canada both sent messages to show their sadness about the tragedy.
This event is a big shock because the World Cup is starting in Mexico in a few weeks. Many people now worry about safety when they travel to the capital or other historic sites. The government promised to increase security to protect visitors. They want to show that the country is still a safe destination for international tourists.
Difficult words: lone (doing something alone, without other people), scene (the place where something takes place).
