The Eden Project is having problems – level 3
20-03-2026 15:00
The Eden Project in Cornwall, UK, recently celebrated its 25th birthday. This famous destination transformed an old clay pit into a world-class attraction with domes that house a giant indoor rainforest.
Over the years, millions of people, including many school children, have visited to learn about nature and wild landscapes. The site even uses geothermal energy from deep underground to keep the tropical plants warm and healthy. However, the project now faces serious financial challenges. Since the pandemic, the number of visitors has dropped by half, which has led to large financial losses. Because of these problems, the organization had to cut many staff positions to save money. This situation puts the future of the famous greenhouses in jeopardy.
Despite these difficulties, the founder is hopeful and wants to inspire young people to believe in big dreams. The site continues to offer new experiences, such as a fast zip wire, to attract more tourists. The goal is to keep this unique place open for future generations to enjoy.
Difficult words: clay pit (a large hole in the ground where people take out a special kind of earth to make things like plates or bricks), jeopardy (a situation where something is in danger of failing, being lost, or being destroyed), unique (something that is the only one of its kind and is very special because there is nothing else like it).
