The EU checks Meta – level 2
29-06-2026 07:00
Leaders in the European Union are increasing their investigation into Meta, the big company that owns Facebook and Instagram.
Important officials say that Meta designs its apps to be addictive to children. The government says the company broke tech rules because it doesn’t stop children under 13 years old from using these social networks. Next month, a special group of experts will give advice, and the EU might make new rules to protect young people.
Meta is also having big legal problems in the United States. Many families are taking the company to court because their children were hurt by social media. Meta is trying to influence American politicians so it doesn’t have to pay for these problems.
Difficult words: investigation (the official process of finding out all the facts about a crime, a problem, or a company), addictive (making you want to do or have something so much that you cannot stop, even if it is bad for you), influence (to have the power to change how someone thinks, behaves, or makes their decisions).
