The Eurovision changes rules – level 1

18-05-2026 15:00

Eurovision is a big music contest. This year, the voting is different. Before, you can vote 20 times. Now, you can only vote 10 times.

The Eurovision bosses make this rule. They want the game to be fair. They do not want one country to get too many votes. Some countries get many votes because they promote the game. Now, half of the points come from the people at home. The other half comes from a group of experts. This way, the winner is someone that both the people and the experts like.

The singers must follow the rules and not ask fans to cheat. The idea of Eurovision is to give votes to more countries, not just one.

Difficult words: contest (an event to see who is the best at something), promote (to make people buy or do something), point (one unit to show who is winning a game).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What are the two sources of points in this year’s Eurovision voting system?
