The risks of Ozempic – level 2

29-06-2026 15:00

At first, Ozempic helped people with diabetes, but it is now famous all over the world for helping people lose weight.

The companies which make these injections spend hundreds of millions of dollars on television advertisements. Today, almost every adult in the United States sees these ads every week. The advertisements always show thin people who look very happy, which puts a lot of pressure on normal people to change their bodies immediately. This pressure is dangerous because it makes people feel bad about their weight, and some even stop eating healthy food or buy the drug illegally on the internet. Even famous sports stars get to sell these products, for example, Serena Williams.

Scientists say we must be very careful because the media talks about a miracle drug, but people forget about the dangerous medical risks.

Difficult words: advertisement (a video, picture, or text on TV or the internet meant to persuade people to buy a product), pressure (a strong feeling that you must do something because other people, society, or your friends expect it from you), miracle (an amazing, wonderful, and almost impossible event that people cannot explain, or something that works perfectly).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What harmful effects are caused by the advertisements that always show thin, happy people?
