The Sydney Opera House – level 2

06-12-2024 15:00

The Sydney Opera House is 51 years old and still famous for its unique design. It hosts many shows and visitors every year and is now more eco-friendly than ever.

Technology helps manage air, temperature, and energy use. Over 1,400 sensors check data every 15 minutes. The building uses seawater from the harbor to cool rooms, which saves a lot of energy energy. The Opera House managed to cut energy and water use by 20% in five years. It cannot have solar panels because it is a heritage building, but original designs like rain-cleaning tiles and good drainage help.

Workers are proud to care for the building and keep it ready for the future.

Difficult words: eco-friendly (good for the planet), sensor (a small device which checks the temperature, pressure, or other things), heritage building (a building which is old and important).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What methods does the Sydney Opera House use to manage its air, temperature, and energy use, and how have these efforts impacted its energy and water consumption over the past five years?
