Trading cards – level 2

03-04-2026 15:00

Old Pokémon cards cost a lot of money now. One card sold for almost 17 million dollars in 2026!

Many adults are now buying these cards as an investment, like gold for example. To know the price, you must send your card to a company for grading. They look at the card very closely. If the card is perfect, it gets a 10 and is very expensive. People like cards because they can hold them in their hands and remember the times when they were kids.

But investing in cards is risky. Sometimes the market crashes, and the cards become worthless. But for now, the business is growing fast, and some people even use card money to pay for school or pension.

Difficult words: investment (something you buy so you can sell it for more money later), risky (dangerous or uncertain), worthless (something what costs no money).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

Why might a Pokémon card that receives a grade of 10 be significantly more valuable than one with a lower grade?
