Training for Mars – level 2
04-09-2015 15:00
Six people from NASA, 3 men and 3 women, moved to a dome near a barren volcano in Hawaii. This simulates life on Mars.
The team of three scientists, a pilot, an architect a doctor and a journalist will live in isolation for a year. If any of them want to go outside, they will have to wear a spacesuit.
This mission will take a year, but NASA says that a real mission to Mars would take between one and three years.
In 2011, an experiment like this happened. The experiment locked astronauts from Europe, Russia and China in small cells without windows for 520 days.
Difficult words: dome (a building which looks like a ball cut in half), barren (there is only dirt and rocks), cell (a very small room).
You can read the original story and watch the video in the Level 3 section.
Would you want to live on Mars?
