Turkey and Syrian refugees – level 1
20-12-2024 07:00
The EU will give Turkey one billion euros to help Syrian refugees. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen says that after meeting Turkish President Erdogan.
The money will help schools, hospitals, and other services for four million refugees in Turkey. Both leaders agree that Syria needs peace.
The EU also plans to work with Syria’s leaders to stop dangerous groups like ISIS from coming back. Turkey is important because it talks often with Syrian leaders. President Erdogan is happy about the money. But he wants the EU to remove rules stopping help to Syria. Turkey thinks Syria needs the money to make new roads and houses.
Difficult words: refugee (a person who leaves their country because of war or natural disaster), peace (the time when there is no conflict), remove (to take away).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What are some of the services that the one billion euros from the EU will help fund for Syrian refugees in Turkey?
