Uganda anti-gay law – level 2
02-06-2023 15:00
Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni signed a very strict law against LGBTQ people, which includes the death penalty for certain cases of homosexuality.
As a result, Western countries, criticize Uganda and they are considering who sanctions on the country. The law could also affect the country’s efforts to fight HIV, because LGBTQ people may not have access to healthcare and prevention services.
LGBTQ activists and organizations are worried about the impact of the law on LGBTQ people in Uganda. They say that all people have the same rights, and it doesn’t matter what their sexual orientation is.
Difficult words: death penalty (the legal killing of a person for a crime), sanction (penalty on a country), sexual orientation (who a person finds attractive, either men or women).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What do you think is the best way for LGBTQ activists in Uganda to fight against the new law?
