UK Storm – level 2

24-02-2020 07:00

A heavy storm hit the UK last weekend. It caused the worst damage in Wales and Southern England. In only two days, more rain fall than it usually falls in one month. Many rivers reached very high levels.

The storm brought very bad weather and heavy floods, and it killed four people. A woman died in her car. The car could not move, and floodwater took the car away. Authorities evacuated thousands of people from their homes.

The situation is dangerous, and water levels of some rivers can continue to rise. Travel across the country is difficult, because officials closed some roads and travel lines.

Difficult words: cause (to make happen), floodwater (water that overflows from a river after heavy rain), evacuate (to take people to a safe place).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
