UN Secretary-General speaks about Pakistan floods – level 2
02-09-2022 07:00
Monsoon winds bring rain to Southern Asia every year, but this year’s rains were heavier than ever before.
Since June, floods hit all parts of Pakistan. Over 1,150 people died, and floods destroyed millions of homes, schools, hospitals, and important infrastructure. Many people believed that the floods were the result of the climate change.
Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary-General spoke to world leaders last week. Guterres said that all the world must work together to solve the climate crisis. Pakistan also asked the UN for 160 million dollars to help people affected by the disaster.
Difficult words: infrastructure (the system and services in a country, for example, roads or power supply), climate change (a change in the usual weather on the planet), climate crisis (dangerous changes in weather on the planet).
