US government stops giving people food – level 2
09-12-2025 15:00
In Georgia, a food pantry is having a hard time because the government cut money for food aid.
Prices in shops go up fast, and many people in the area cannot buy enough food. More families come to the pantry, but the workers don’t have enough eggs, meat, or fresh food to give.
Many food banks across the country have the same problem. They depend on big centers that send food from farms and companies, but these centers now get less money. Staff members try to find new partners and new money, but the need grows every week.
Some families deal with illness and depend on the pantry for all meals. They hope for more help, but workers say they must prepare for even harder days next year.
Difficult words: food pantry (a place that gives free food to people who need it), aid (help), staff (the people who work in a place).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What strategies are pantry staff using to cope with reduced funding from large distribution centers and meet the growing need?
