Vendée Globe – level 2
18-11-2024 07:00
On Sunday, 40 sailors began the tenth Vendée Globe, a solo race around the world.
Many people gathered in Les Sables-d’Olonne, France, to say goodbye including French skipper Jérémie Beyou, a favorite. This is Beyou’s fifth Vendée Globe, and he hopes to win after ending up third in 2016. His team helped him carefully prepare a boat with over 100 kilograms of food and tools to last 80 days.
Beyou’s new, high-tech boat is very fast, and his team has worked for years to get it ready. The boat has special settings for high performance and stability on the water. Still, Beyou knows that sailing fast is risky. To win, he will need to complete the race in under 74 days, the record set in 2016.
Difficult words: solo (alone, without other people), gather (to get together), favorite (a person who is likely to win a game or race).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What is the record time Jérémie Beyou needs to beat in order to win the Vendée Globe?
