The Schengen Area lets people travel freely between countries in Europe. Now, it is facing problems. Germany starts checking its borders again after a man from Syria attacks people in the country. Hungary also threatens to send migrants to Belgium. They want to do it because of a fine from the EU. These checks at the borders are not what Schengen is about. Schengen is about easy travel between countries.

But since 2015, more countries start border checks again. The European Union wants countries to stop doing this. Some countries refuse to do it. Schengen is still working, but it is harder to keep it without borders.

Difficult words: border (a line between two countries), threaten (to say that you will make problems or hurt someone if you do not get what you want), refuse (to say no).
