Yacht sinks near Italy – level 3
31-08-2022 07:00
While sailing from Gallipoli to Milazzo in Sicily, a 40-meter super yacht named ‘Saga’ got into trouble.
On Saturday night, the captain sent a distress call because the vessel began taking on water at the stern. The Italian coast guard tried to tow the ship back to port; however, the stern completely sank on Sunday morning. Coast guard took all four passengers and five crew members to safety, and their investigation began on why the yacht.
Several media said the vessel was linked to Russian oligarch Gennady Ayvazyan; he is the 54-year-old co-owner of Russia’s second largest coal exporter. Italian media believe that the ship was worth at least 50 million dollars, and it was one of the largest yachts built by a Monaco yachting company.
Difficult words: distress call (a signal that a ship or plane sends when it needs help), stern (the rear part of a ship), oligarch (a very rich person with political influence, especially in Russia).
