China underground lab – level 1

18-10-2024 07:00

China is building a lab called JUNO. Scientists will study small things called neutrinos there.

Neutrinos exist in nuclear reactions. They can go through many things, even our bodies, and they do not change. Scientists will learn more about how neutrinos work. They can help us understand the universe.

The lab is deep underground in China. It costs 300 million dollars. It will start in 2025. It will look at neutrinos from nuclear power plants and from the sun. This information will help us understand how the Earth’s surface moves. JUNO will be ready before a similar project in the US called DUNE. DUNE has problems with money. It will be ready around 2030.

Difficult words: nuclear (connected to energy from atoms), universe (all existing things like stars, planets, galaxies, and so on), surface (the outside part of something).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What is the purpose of studying neutrinos in the JUNO lab and how will this information help us understand the universe and the Earth's surface movements?
