Georgia protests – level 1
05-12-2024 07:00
Tbilisi is Georgia’s capital. People in Tbilisi are upset. The government has stopped plans to join the EU until 2028.
People protest. Police used pepper spray and water to stop the protests. Many people go to prison. Some journalists are hurt. Workers and students also join the protests. Some schools close because of this. The Prime Minister says that the EU is not unfair. The EU says that Georgia has problems in elections.
Many people think that the government is working with Russia and not helping Georgia join the EU. More protests will happen soon.
Difficult words: upset (angry, unhappy), join (to take part), journalist (a person who writes or talks about the news).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What are the reasons for the protests in Tbilisi and how has the government and the EU responded to them?
