A man wants to eat every animal on Earth – level 2
18-04-2024 07:00
William Buckland was a famous British scientist. In the 1830s, he hosted strange dinner parties. He served unusual foods, like a mouse on toast.
Buckland had unusual habits but he studied geology at Oxford University and he became a respected person in science. He wanted to change old ways of thinking and ideas in the Bible, by studying fossils. Buckland discovered the Megalosaurus bones, which helped people understand dinosaurs better. His wife Mary also loved science and supported his work.
Buckland wanted to eat every animal on Earth. He didn’t manage to do that, but he showed that science can be exciting and fun.
Difficult words: habit (something what you do often and regularly), respected (when people have a good opinion about someone because of what this person does or did), fossil (old plants or parts of animals in the ground).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What significant contribution did Mary Buckland make to her husband's scientific work?
