AI helps women in Kenya – level 2
21-02-2024 07:00
Every two minutes, a pregnant woman dies due to complications, mostly in places like Kenya.
Many people in sub-Saharan Africa live far from hospitals. They don’t get good care and it is difficult to get to hospitals. But new technology, like portable ultrasound devices, may help. Groups like Jakaranda Health and Google create devices which non-experts can use. The devices use AI to analyze scans and detect problems early, which can save lives.
Experts are still testing these devices which could greatly improve maternal healthcare in Kenya, where only a few mothers currently have access to ultrasounds.
Difficult words: complication (a problem), portable (a thing which you can carry or move around), maternal (related to mothers).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
How are non-experts being empowered to help improve maternal healthcare in Kenya through the use of portable ultrasound devices and AI technology?
