Attack on Maduro – level 3
08-08-2018 07:00
The Venezuelan President, Nicolas Maduro, was giving a speech in Caracas at a parade when a drone loaded with explosives flew towards him and exploded on live TV.
Security guards reacted quickly and tried to protect him before leading him to safety. Maduro himself did not seem shocked and looked on as the incident unfolded. Later in an aired speech, he said that his first reaction was of observation and serenity because he has full confidence in the people and the armed forces.
Details of the incident and who is responsible is currently being widely debated.
Difficult words: unfold (happen), observation (observing – watching), serenity (being calm, untroubled), confidence (believing in something).
