Banksy Shocks at Auction – level 2

People at the auction of Banksy’s ‘Girl With Balloon’ were in for a shock because after the painting was sold for £1.04m, it self-destructed.

It turned out that there was a shredder embedded in the frame of the painting. It turned on after the painting was sold, and people thought that it was a joke but the whole thing was real – the painting, the price, and its destruction.

Some people said that the shredding was original and ingenious.

Difficult words: self-destruct (destroy itself), shredder (a machine for cutting something into pieces), embedded (built-in), ingenious (very imaginative).
